Safe and secure housing project

At Westside Housing we understand that when women make the decision to leave it is vital that they have somewhere safe to go.

Our latest project will provide a safe and supportive environment for women and their children to recover.  It is located inner in the inner north-west only 5km from the city and a short walk to public transport and other facilities.

There will be four new homes, both 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom to suit a variety of family circumstances.  These homes are modern and open plan with private backyards and additional safety features.  They will be available to women and their children who are living on low incomes and who are registered on the Social Housing Register.

Normus are our builder partner in this project, and we look forward to completion in November 2022.

New affordable housing for Kilburn

Our team are excited to see this project underway

Ten new 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom townhouses in Kilburn to help meet the ever growing demand for high quality, affordable rentals in a great location. A stones throw away from shops, buses and medical facilities this is the ideal location to alleviate the expense of a car, adding to the affordability for  residents.

We know that loneliness is an increasing issue particularly for people living alone and these homes are walking distance from our soon to be completed site in Florence Avenue Blair Athol. This will give residents an opportunity to easily foster interactions and connections in the local  community.

Julie Blake, Westside Housing’s CEO, said “We’re looking forward to seeing these new homes take shape. Affordable rental housing at a subsidised  rent is a great option for people who may not qualify for social housing.”

Set for completion in December 2021, Westside Housing is delighted to be working with Cook Building on this project.

New affordable rental housing for Blair Athol

Building is nearing completion on a new affordable housing project in Blair Athol for South Australians living on low incomes.

Construction is nearly completed at 8 on Florence of the two-storey townhouses conveniently located within walking distance of facilities alleviating the need for residents to own a vehicle.

8 on Florence is part of Westside Housing’s broader development program and is one of three residential projects delivering 29 homes with an investment of $7m in the local area

It is the fourth development project delivered by Westside Housing under the South Australian Housing Authority’s Community Housing Asset Renewal Program.

Housing affordability stress is increasing for people living on low incomes who are struggling to pay the rent.

Older women over 55 are the fastest growing cohort of homeless people and most are homeless for the first time in their lives.

This project will deliver homes for older women, veterans and small families living on low to moderate incomes who are facing homelessness.

Changes in the demographics of our community see increasing demand for smaller homes with easy to manage courtyard style gardens and this site offers low maintenance, small private spaces for each resident.

Environmental sustainability and low utility costs for residents is a key element of this development with heat pumps for low energy hot water, high grade insulation, plumbed rainwater, double glazed windows and cross ventilation to reduce the cost of heating and cooling.

Westside Housing is trialing Embertech photo voltaic panels and aims to install these at the site.

Julie Blake CEO of Westside Housing Company says the project will help address the increasing need for affordable rental housing in the community.  Residents will pay a subsidised rent to help weather the storm if income reduces taking the worry out of a fluctuating income.
